In 2017, as a part of our new mission emphasis on shelter, Heritage Heritage chose Ezekiel Development Corporation as one of its mission partners and began to look for ways we could help. It was decided to develop a special "Shelter Service" that could be presented at various churches throughout the area that would raise awareness of Ezekiel and collect funds that wuld be used to benefit their Project HOPE.
Ezekiel provides on-site training to minority firms to create affordable housing for city residents. In addition, Ezekiel partners with Felmers Chaney correctional facility, allowing inmates to build skills and work experience needed for employment following release.
Funds raised will be used to purchase trainee tool kits for new employees, apprentice tool kits for trainees who will continue to train and work in their new field, and welcome-home baskets to provide first-time home buyers with the things they need to care for their new home. In addition, a generous donor has agreed to match every dollar raised!
WINTER/SPRING 2018 UPDATE
Our group of Shelter Service Volunteers have been busy this winter leading and sharing worship with a special Shelter Service. This service gives us a chance to share our gifts of music and drama with the wider community, as well as support one of our mission partners Ezekiel Community Development Corporation.
Our service has been well received and we are happy to announce $2,648 has been collected. With our matching donor, that brings the total to $5,296. Thank you all for your participation and support.
SUMMER 2018 UPDATE
Heritage Presbyterian would again like to thank the Presbytery for inviting us to lead worship at the May Presbytery meeting. It is with great joy that we share our love of music and worship and call to mission with others.
Together at the four Shelter worship services, we raised almost $5,000 for Ezekiel Community Development Corporation. These funds were then matched by a generous donor.
Together, we purchased 10 starter kits and 6 apprentice kits to help equip workers with training and working towards apprenticeship.
Together, we purchased much needed "Job Tools" that will be shared and kept by Ezekiel. Such items were a generator, cordless drills, drill bits, cordless saws, table saw, and saw blades.
After taking a break for the summer, the Shelter Service will be back on the road this fall. If you are interested in having us lead worship at your congregation, please contact Michelle Henrichs (firstname.lastname@example.org). Possible dates are: 9/30, 10/21, 10/28, 11/11, and 11/18. Thank you!
